Probate advice
A » Abroad
If the deceased had Estate (assets such as bank accounts & property) abroad, we suggest that you take professional advice, in the applicable country, initially to see what they expect you to do.
Some countries use our Grant for their purposes, some though will have their own system. You need to find this out first by talking to the professional lawyers in the country concerned.
You will need to get accurate valuations of property, using professional valuers, particularly if the values of all foreign Estate exceeds £75,000.
If the foreign estate exceeds £75,000 then the stop filling in the Inland Revenue IHT205 form and complete the IHT200 instead.
Remember, there may be a Will in the foreign country or Forced Heirship Rules which apply and which need appraisal first.
